NE MAKI SHIBORI

Thread resisted rings. These little dotty motifs make wonderful punctuation marks in a pattern or design when tiny. Place a bead under the fabric and bind round with a fine strong thread. Here 5 times.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/448063112″ css=”.vc_custom_1599555778973{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1599555786639{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”]

MAKI-AGE SHIBORI Full shape and half shape on fold.

Plan a shape to bind by drawing it before stitching. On single layer fabric use a single thread if the shape is not too big. Working on the fold you will need a double thread for stitching in order to tie off. Bind the pouch that appears when the threads are pulled up.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/448066938″ css=”.vc_custom_1599555799438{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1599555806980{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”]

KUMO SHIBORI with BOSHI

A larger bead is used. Bind up to the bead methodically and back, crisscross over previous threads and secure. Using a larger piece of plastic than you need, place the plastic over the bead area. Bind around. Bring the plastic over the top covering the bead again. Bind. Trim.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/449050053″ css=”.vc_custom_1599555817753{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1599555827545{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”]

BINDING TO A CENTRAL CORE

Heavier fabric is used here. Cover the wooden core with cling film/kitchen wrap. Start to pull up the shape. Insert the core in the aperture. Pull up threads tightly and tie off. Adjust the position of folds with a knitting needle (or some such) so that dye uptake is evenly distributed around the central shape. Bind on the stitching line, taking the thread up as far as you like and back down. Tie off.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/448074473″ css=”.vc_custom_1599555932965{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1599555844038{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”]

PREPARATION FOR DIP-DYEING ON A BOUND CORE

Stretch out kitchen wrap/cling film on work surface. Place on it the prepared bound core and wrap to protect. Make tidy using tape to secure folds. Bind over the plastic at the previous start point of the binding underneath. Carefully cut the plastic covering the original area of binding (Use applique scissors if you have them) and fold back. Secure with tape. Dip dye.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/448088773″ css=”.vc_custom_1599555924427{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1599555860079{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”]

OUTER BAND BINDING

Work central motif first. Select the core. Pull up the two rows of stitching a little. Place the core in the aperture and continue pulling up threads to the core. Tie off. Adjust position of folds with knitting needle (or similar) to distribute them evenly around the core for even uptake of dye. Bind between the two rows of pulled up stitches. The top or base section could then be capped if required.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/448079234″ css=”.vc_custom_1599555880079{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1599555869070{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”]

GUNTAI SHIBORI

This is an over sew stitch worked from left to right. Work a few stitches only, then pull them up tightly. At the narrow ends reduce the size of the gap between the stitches to keep the resist clear and to define the shape. If the fabric is fine place another fabric underneath before stitching and baste in place.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/448084405″ css=”.vc_custom_1599555890395{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″ css=”.vc_custom_1599556018521{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-right: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;padding-left: 20px !important;background-color: #f1f1f1 !important;}”][vc_column_text][swpm_login_form][/vc_column_text][button size=”small” target=”_self” hover_type=”default” text=”Return to Level 1 main page” margin=”25px 0px 25px 0px” link=”https://janecallender.com/shibori-stream-members-area/shibori-stream-level-1/”][vc_column_text][swpm_protected for=”3″ do_not_show_protected_msg=”2″]
