Marking up

Cotton Poplin measures 21½ x 15”. Grid area 18½ x 11. Making Pleats

Cotton Poplin measures 23 x17”. The grid is half an inch square. You will need some fine pins. Box and Inverted Pleats

Stitching and pulling up pleats

Ordinary sewing thread is used for tacking, (basting) to secure folds and pleats prior to working the shibori stitching. A knitting needle is used to adjust the folds when pulling up the threads. Patterned Stripes

Here we see the folding and stitching of three different patterned stripes worked on the half inch grid.
